Connecting You To The Ice Road

Does anybody know why this town didn't want Ice Road back again? I've never been able to find out why.

It was not the town that nixed season two out of the Northwest Territories. It was the diamond mines and the Tli-Cho Land Transit that didn't want them back, as I have gathered from other sites. There is a window in which they must move the loads needed, and all the distractions that come with the cameras and such added to the stress of situation. They just didn't want it.

Thank you so much Mike. I have been trying to get an answer to this question for quite some time. So, what do you think of this season as little of it that we'ver seen? To me, it looks a lot more harrowing for the drivers. I do know there is no way in he** I would drive it even if I drove big rigs! That first rollercoaster is somthing else!!!! Again, thanks Mike, Chris

You're quite welcome Chris. This season opener, which I just saw yesterday, had me glued to the TV. Nowhere in my 28 years of pavement trucking did I ever see ANYTHING near what I saw of the "rollercoaster" section of the Haul Road. This is a whole new kind of ice road trucking as evidenced by the memorial board at the last truck stop before the wilderness begins on the Haul Road.

They said there was a dead man for almost every mile of that road.

WOW...

I guess it's no wonder we don't see Rick up there. He wouldn't make it out of the simulator.

I seriously doubt if ANYBODY, including the History channel, wanted Rick back! With all his problems, primarily self made, not being able to make it on the roads in Canada, he sure couldn't on this road! Having worked at a rairoad tie processing yard, I was around a lot of heavy machinery. I know what one can do to tear up a forklift, cat, etc., and Rick pretty much hit them all! Yeah, they are tough built machines but its not that hard to tear one up and I could tell Rick knew the tricks. He reminded me of one guy I worked with that he wouldn't know manual labor if it smacked him in his face. I could work circles around quite a few of the boys/men I worked with and some, more than some, could work circles around me. It was hard work for a woman and I ended up having back surgery in 2002 and again in 2008. The laborer that was supposed to be helping somebody pull a standard green white oak tie, untreated, wasn't anywhere to be found, so, I went out to help him. Well, you're supposed to tell the other person when you are ready to drag the tie. He didn't. It just corkscrewed my back and ruptured a disc. And, get this, you, I'm quite sure knows if somebody has injured their back, you should put them on a back board and be transported, ideally, by a squad. Well, this bunch of geniuses decided the personnel manager should take me in the company CAR sitting up in the front seat!!! It was a horrible day. Back to Rick. There should be no doubt that he let this go to his head. Remember when he said "it's Ice Road Rick not Ice Road Trucker". He was so full of it and himself, he could never play well with others! LOL

Have a good one today. Keep in touch. Will most likely be posting on Sunday night or Monday. Do you find yourself being so engrossed in the show that the next thing you know they are giving previews for the next one? Time really flies watch IRT!

Take care, Chris

I know that you being a woman you have to work twice as hard just to get the recognition you deserve. I've seen that in the trucking industry down here in California. I think that is changing, allbeit slow. Is that a word?

Ouch on the back injury!! You are lucky that your boss didn't cripple you for life transporting you that way. I hope he/she has a new slant on handling such injuries now.

And yes, last night the hour went so fast I couldn't believe it!! Ready for episode # 2!!

Have a great day Chris!
